Rack it up

I stumbled across this article today and was totally inspired by these designs. The Brisbane City Council is going through a design phase, whereby everything matches. So we have started to see buses, train stations and bike racks all fitting in with the corporate branding of the Council, which is royal blue and yellow. Sometimes these harsh colours and awkward shapes just don't fit into our landscape.

Doubleyou is inspired by different ideas and the old and new sitting together in a city. David Bryne, a New York based biking enthusiast and artist conjured up these fantastic bike racks, which were installed throughout New York for the whole of last year. The various silhouettes speak to different places throughout the city, a dollar sign outside Times Square and a shoe on 5th Avenue. Such a clever, simple idea that doesn't aim to promote the city, just to reflect upon it and enhance it its personality.
