Frangipani's

I love frangipanis, growing up there was one in everyones backyard (usually found across from the mango tree, in view of the hills hoist) One of my favourite things is my claret frangipani, it is currently flowering and just beautiful. It is a rare colour not seen too often in our city. Here is a photo taken in my courtyard with the famous residential highrise Torbrek behind, most locals of Brissy know this building by sight and I use it as a marker to guide me home, I can even see it flying home in planes.

I got my frangipani from my good friend Darryl Mappin, a talented garden designer and landscaper. Darryl has worked with our family for years (post coming soon). If you would like one of your own contact details for Darryl: The Garden Centre is at 240 Montague Road, West End, Brisbane. Ph: (07) 3846 6240 http://www.darrylmappin.com/.

I also love the common traditional white and yellow flowering variety, last week I was walking down the street and a builder was removing a frangipani and about to bin it, we grabbed some of the branches and have them in the courtyard drying, once they 'scab' over you can pop them into a pot and they just grow. Picture of mine drying below.

I have been using some of the flower heads in my little green vase, so fresh and lovely...

My other frangipani is on my back deck, seen here behind the table, I bought it a few years ago as my christmas tree, it has doubled in size and is about to flower again - I can't wait!

On writing this post i did a bit of googling to see if i could find my claret frangipani... not much luck but i did find this http://frangipaniworld.com.au/store/index.php it is on the gold coast, 1 hour from brissy, think I will round up Lizzie for a day trip!
