Hotel Basico

I have a dream…. I want to stay in this hotel. I read about The Hotel Basico a few years ago in Wallpaper and have coveted this place ever since. The way the place is designed is so fabulous, a design hotel that doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet encompasses everything that is stylish and design savvy and ohhh so so so cool! Australia is in desperate need of  one! The hotel was designed by Hectar Galvan and  he has referenced the Mexican petroleum industry throughout. Features that delight include, a roof top bar, a juice bar, a thriving nightlife, a knockout interior, sea views, exposed pipes, two petrol tank pools, beautiful people and a collection of inhouse indy films to rent if the nightlife leaves you for dead.

Basico is ideally situated just off 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen, close to restaurants, shops, bars, nightclubs and only a few steps away from the ocean. Only 40 minutes away from the airport and 15 minutes away from nearest bus station.

"The Hotel Basico in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, is made from materials recycled from public schools, cantinas and ´50s-era oil refineries. It looks a bit like a container ship and has a gutsy raw appeal." —The World´s Coolest Hotel Rooms by Bil Takos - July 2008

It has a strict no children policy, but a yes to pets, go figure? Rooms with a view start at $178 US a night. Plans are underway for a holiday early next year and this hotel is on the agenda!
