Flora and Fauna

Dwell is one of doubleyou’s favourite magazines and is not only a great source of inspiration for our own design practice, but it's also becoming a great travel guide for our upcoming trip to America.

I read about this garden centre, not long after Suzie had completed designing a nursery come garden shop in West End. Anyway, it’s on our list of placed to visit in San Francisco, here are a few photos of the space. Its owned by a lady aptly named Flora Grubb, the complex was designed by a firm called Boor Bridges Architecture. The design included corrugated iron, an old car, and speaks to the industrial aesthetic of an old warehouse.

“With the design I wanted to mimic the industrial buildings around it but to have it dissolve at the edges, like an urban ruin overtaken by plants,” says Boor. “We wanted a structure that supports the plants but doesn’t contain them.”

We will be sure to post some pictures of our visit to the nursery and Suzie's local garden centre design in the coming months.
