The Royal Cafe

The Royal Café, sits adjacent to Royal Copenhagen in the city itself, is a pretty special little wonderland of food and beautiful girly design. They serve their one version of high tea, that includes light canapés and sushi for lunch and lovely little sweet treats for morning and afternoon tea. It occupies a building built in 1616 and honours all of its existing features, but making it very up-to-date with the all things Danish in its cutlery, light fittings and furniture. Bang & Olufsen and Fritz Hansen actually designed special fixtures just for this cafe.

Design highlights include a nearly white base palette with soft sorbet colours throughout the furniture, small light fittings, trinkets and the food. The ceiling is a reflective silver and white wallpaper, one wall is hand painted wall by Eva Stengade, and the atypical blue china is used for serving. This delicate white palette actually makes the place feel completely low key and understated, which it isn’t by any means.

It’s a place fit for a Princess and no doubt ‘Our Mary’ and little Isabel pop on in for a little arvo tea and a baby chino from time to time!
