Gallery hop
I went along to a few gallery openings on Friday.
1. James Guppy at Jan Murphy (www.janmurphygallery.com.au/current)
2. Nicholas Harding at Phillip Bacon Galleries ( http://www.philipbacongalleries.com.au/artists/NicholasHarding/2009/exhibition.htm)
3. Andrew Gordon at Nine Lives Gallery (http://www.andrewgordonbleeds.com/newsblog.html)
Twas a fun night and it was great to get to see such different kinds of work in one night. My favourite peices from each show...
Beach life by Andrew Gordon. All of the works in the show depict candid scenes from the beach, in the most wonderful gestural impastopaintings.
My favourite James Guppy work was the The Rhinoceros & The Teacup. This series of works reminded me of being in a dream about Alice in Wonderland. I love how the scale of these two elements make the painting so dynamic.
I purchased for the momenumental price of $20, a little pencil drawing of a camera by Andrew Gordon. his works were a little Ryhs Lee inspired. They are really fun portraits, his dipiction of teeth scared me a little, but thats just a personal thing. Here is a pic of one of his paintings, Two young girls in an inflatable pool.
